PIECK GOCHICOA, Enrique. Meaning and Influence of Technical Training: Student Perspectives. RMIE [online]. 2011, vol.16, n.48, pp.159-194. ISSN 1405-6666.

This article reports on the results of a study of the technical training offered to young people in vulnerable sectors. The study analyzed the meaning that young people in workshops at decentralized job training institutes (ICAT) attach to the program. The objective was addressed by viewing the organization from the perspective of students and graduates. The goal was to define the importance attributed to these workshops within the framework of young people's dynamics of study and work. The study emphasized motivation and expectations, work experiences, and the processes of academic persistence and withdrawal. The research was completed in two schools in the state of Michoacán; the focus was qualitative although a survey was included. The final reflections refer to the social implications of offering job training of this nature.

Palabras llave : technical education; education and employment; young people; expectations; social factors; Mexico.
