Abstract

This article analyzes the contribution of the professional training process in developing the skills for working adequately in a profession. It addresses skills as a useful conceptual tool for evaluating the results of an educational program, and explores the skills that a professional should have. In this case, the professionals under study are university-trained technicians in computer science who graduated from Universidad Tecnológica de Nezahualcóyotl. The study evaluates the skill levels of a sample of graduates during their company internships. The results show the need to balance the university's function in generating and transmitting knowledge as well as in developing thinking abilities for acquiring the required skills at work.
