Abstract
NATERAS DOMINGUEZ, José Octavio. Información política en estudiantes de primaria y secundaria. Aspectos socioeconómicos y exposición a medios de comunicación: los inicios de la socialización política. RMIE [online]. 2007, vol.12, n.35, pp.1357-1403. ISSN 1405-6666.
This article presents the results of a study on the level of information students have about institutions and actors in the Mexican political system. The study was carried out on a non-probabilistic sample of 1,045 students in both public and private elementary and secondary schools. The students were selected intentionally by group and grade. The results show that a low level of political information predominates, as well as low interest in political and social issues. The students’ levels of information are not associated statistically with variables related to the socioeconomic characteristics of their families, or to their gender, grade at school, or type of school (public or private). Neither is their exposure to the media linked statistically to their levels of political information. The results are discussed along with theoretical elements of political psychology and the process of political socialization.
