ESPINOSA, Cecilia M.  e  HUDELSON, Sarah. Maestros y estudiantes como aprendices de nuevos discursos académicos. RMIE [online]. 2007, vol.12, n.34, pp.867-894. ISSN 1405-6666.

The linguist, James Gee, has developed a theory on Discourse (with a capital letter) that differentiates between primary Discourse acquired within the speaking communities of the home, and secondary Discourse developed when individuals participate in secondary institutions-like school, where children and adolescents should have many opportunities to acquire various secondary/academic Discourses. This qualitative study focuses on an analysis of the opportunities presented to students by three bilingual teachers to learn the Discourse of ornithologists and writers of journals. We analyze the way the teachers created opportunities to allow students to participate as members of these new communities of academic Discourse, in their native language as well as a second language.
