Abstract

An analysis is made of elementary teachers’ appropriation of the proposal for teaching mathematics, a result of Mexico’s curriculum reform of 1993. Achievements and difficulties are indicated, and an attempt is made to explain the underlying processes of change in teaching practices, along with the factors that favor or impede such change. The study was based on interviews with teachers and classroom observations.
