The object of study of this article is the process of teachers’ appropriation of the use of videos for teaching in a public secondary school in the Federal District; the school is incorporated into the project of “Secundarias para el Siglo XXI” (Sec XXI)(“Secondary Schools for the 21st Century”). The study was ethnographic, based on information compiled from eleven classroom observations and twelve semi-structured interviews with teachers and directors. The main findings of the study refer to the heterogeneity of the appropriation processes and to the displacement of practices that existed before the Sec XXI project reached the school, such as reading and the use of the textbook.
