Abstract

This study presents a panorama of the training and continuing education of secondary teachers in Mexico. A review of the literature and interviews with various actors suggest that in spite of the progress of the past decade, gaps remain between desired teacher skills and the ability of training programs and continuing education to develop such skills. Some difficulties are derived from the context of teaching in secondary school; other difficulties result from a complete lack of teacher training among a large proportion secondary school teachers, as well as the existing deficiencies in training and continuing education.
