This article is part of anthropological research carried out at a public school in Córdoba, Argentina, to address the relations among teenagers enrolled in the same grade. The contextualized socio-historical time reveals the downward social mobility of large sectors of the population, especially the middle levels of society that were impoverished in the 1990s. In a framework of conflictive relations within the group, the emergence of courtship triggers a series of new difficulties. In times of uncertainty, emotionality, courtship and feelings seem to be weighty problems in developing social relations in middle school. Many cases of school violence seem to be inserted in this type of conflict, which teachers and authorities generally minimize. Submitted to discussion are some preliminary reflections that have become questions for new research.
