GOMEZ FUENTES, María del Carmen. Development and Implementation of High Dimensional Model Representations (HDMR) using a Software Design Process. Comp. y Sist. [online]. 2007, vol.11, n.1, pp.76-92. ISSN 2007-9737.
High Dimensional Model Representations (HDMR) techniques are tools to improve the mathematical modeling of physical systems, especially those with a high number of variables. One of the main HDMR applications is the development and use of a Fully Equivalent Operational Model (FEOM) in the modeling of a physical system described by means of a set of differential equations. A FEOM is a model which replaces the slow part of a system obtaining equivalent outputs but faster than the original model. In this work we present a FEOM development as a faster alternative to solve stiff systems of differential equations, for which the solution is computationally intensive. Finally, we use a FEOM to solve the initial-value problem for the stiff system of ordinary differential equations which describe the chemical reaction mechanisms used in the 3-dimensional model of diffusion/advection of air pollution. With the use of FEOM we achieved a significant reduction of the computational load.
