Resumen

LOPEZ-CANTENS, Gilberto; LEON-MOJARRO, Benjamín de; PRADO-HERNANDEZ, Víctor  y  ROJANO-AGUILAR, Abraham. Application of energy-momentum method to radial gate discharge calibration. Agrociencia [online]. 2010, vol.44, n.8, pp.895-905. ISSN 2521-9766.

The calibration of radial gates with submerged discharge in irrigation districts is a problem to solve and therefore the energy - momentum method was applied for free and submerged discharge conditions in an experimental canal located at the Universidad Autónoma Chapingo, in México. Gate openings from 0.07 to 0.27 m were evaluated, as well as flows from 0.062 to 0.161 m3s -1 and pin heights of 0.535 and 0.625 m for free discharge and 0.446, 0.669 and 0.802 m for submerged discharge; water levels were measured with an automated data acquisition system. It was determined that the energy - momentum method can be applied in the calibration of radial gates, with an error of less than 3.55 % for free download and 9.6 % for submerged discharge. In addition it was found that the empirical model for determining the energy correction factor by Clemmens et al. (2003) is more robust in the estimation of flow, being the absolute deviation 59% lower than the model by Wahl et al. (2003). However, this hydraulic parameter must continue being adjusted to enhance the accuracy of the flow estimation.
