Fire is a very common element of disturbance in the majority of terrestrial ecosystems, and its occurrence is reflected directly on species structure and composition. In this study, we characterized the vegetation structure and diversity after fire of a Tamaulipan thornscrub area, in northeast of Mexico. We established five sampling plots of 40 x 40 meters (1 600 m2), where we performed a census of all trees and shrubs (d0.10 m >5cm). Were made to each individual measurements of diameter of crown. For each specie was obtained the importance value index (IVI) calculated starting of three variables, abundance according with the number of trees per hectare (Naha-1) dominance across of the coverage of the crown area, and frequency with base in its presence in the sites of sampling. Also, was calculated the indexes Shannon’s diversity (H´) and Margalef´s wealth(D MG ). In total were registered twenty-four species, being Havardia Pallens which got the major values of importance with 11.3% IVIrel. For the Margalef Index was obtained a value of DMG = 3.16, which indicates a high wealth of species. With this are provided quantitative elements of the tree and shrub vegetation of a community burned, suggesting that this type of vegetation presents high values of regeneration.
