Abstract

Description of the development of the prothallus of three corticolous species (Polypodium colpodes Kunze, Polypodium arcanum Maxon var. bakerii (Daven.) Mickel et Tejero and Phlebodium inaequale T. We analyze and describe the morphology of the sexual phase of Polypodium colpodes Kunze, P. arcanum Maxon var. bakerii (Daven.) Mickel et Tejero and Phlebodium inaequale T. Moore. They are epiphytes obligates the last two and facultative the first. The three taxa are common in the mountain of México. The specimens were collected from Sierra of Igualatlaco, Guerrero state, México. Their spores were sown in glosses franks with natural substrates, some with maquique fiber stem of Cyathea sp. and others in plant litter. The germination in the three species was Vittaria-type. The gametophyte development in maquique was Drynaria-type and Adiantum-type for P. colpodes y P. arcanum in plant litter. Ph. inaequale there are not development in this substrate. In the species and substrates there are different forms of gametophytes. The development of the archegonium were obtained in the three species, but the antheridia only in Ph. inaequale (maquique). The gametophyte development of P. arcanum var. bakerii began at 177 days in maquique and at 77 days in pant litter. Ph. inaequale looked at 366 days in maquique and in plant litter there are not development. The cycle of P. colpodes presented few sporophytes at 331 days in maquique and in plant litter at 270 days with many sporophytes. The three species presented asexual reproduction of gametophyte. Ecological aspects of the differences in development are discussed.
