The traditional flower markets Xochiquetzal in Tenancingo, State of Mexico and Jamaica in Mexico City, are important because of the merchandising of foliage plants of which is unknown their taxonomic affiliation and that's why, it is relevant to perform an inventory. To do this, both markets were visited and bought plants then, a herbalization and a taxonomic affiliation was made on the herbarium of the Facultad de Ciencias Agrícolas of the Universidad Autónoma del Estado de México. Further information was obtained by applying a survey, with the data attained, an inventory and a foliage catalog of both markets was made. The results show that the number of species traded in the two markets is 87 species, belonging to 57 genera and 38 families. The largest number of species are sold as foliage bundle (43%) and the lowest number corresponds to fruit bunches (3%), the highest number of foliage plants is marketed in Jamaica market (71%) and only 13% in Tenancingo market. Araceae family has a greater number of foliage plants (10%). These information is due to their species have showy inflorescences and have a long vase life. The data collected in the catalog will provide outreach and support to establish conservation and sustainable use strategies of the species traded in the markets.
