Abstract

ALDANA LLANOS, L. et al. Bioinsecticide activity of organic extracts of Bursera copallifera (DC.) Bullock and Bursera grandifolia (Schltdl.) Engl. on armyworm Spodoptera frugiperda J. E. Smith (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae). Polibotánica [online]. 2010, n.29, pp.149-158. ISSN 1405-2768.

This study evaluated the bioinsecticide activity of organic extracts of Bursera copallifera and B. grandifolia on L1 larvae of Spodoptera frugiperda. It is likely that the acetonic extract (500 ppm) of leaves of B. copallifera had an effect as an antifeedant on armyworm, causing a 50% reduction in larval weight at 14 days. It also produced 47% larval mortality, whereas the hexane extract produced 44% deformed pupae, and of the population that emerged from pupae, 14% were deformed as adults. Acetone and methanol extracts of leaves of B. grandifolia produced 37 and 45% larval mortality at 14 days, respectively, whereas the hexane extract from stems caused a larval mortality of 37% over the same period.

Keywords : Burseraceae; lignane; terpenes; artificial diet.
