LUNA-CAZARES, Lorena M. e GONZALEZ-ESQUINCA, Alma R.. Antibacterial activity Annona diversifolia Safford and Annona purpurea Mociño & Sessé ex Dunal extracts. Polibotánica [online]. 2008, n.25, pp.120-125. ISSN 1405-2768.
In the state of Chiapas Annona is represented by twelve species, the most common of which are A. diversifolia (papausa) and A. purpurea (chincuya). These are employed by ethnic populations and farmers owing to their antidiarrheal, anticold and anticough properties and their ability to combat lice and bedbugs. In this study the antibacterial activity of crude extracts of both species was evaluated on Escherichia coli (ATTC 25922), Salmonella Typhi (ATTC 6539) and Klebsiella pneumoniae (ATTC 13883). The extracts from A. purpurea were the most active, and S. Typhi was the most susceptible bacterium followed by K. pneumoniae. Extracts from stems of A. diversifolia and A. purpurea did not exhibit an antimicrobial effect on the tested bacteria.
