SANTOS, Fabio Alexandre dos. The capital of São Paulo, its waters and its space (1890-1940): different actions, one way. Am. Lat. Hist. Econ [online]. 2021, vol.28, n.2, e1125. Epub 06-Jul-2021. ISSN 2007-3496. https://doi.org/10.18232/alhe.1125.
Can it be said that an urban "sense of action" was formed in the city of São Paulo, constituted by a private orientation in the first decades of the twentieth century? This is the hypothesis of this reflection that seeks to interpret public and private interventions on the city having as its guiding axis the waters, especially those used for power generation. That said, the objective behind this article is to grasp the relationship and legacies of companies and public agents in the construction of this possible sense of urban occupation that generated an elitist, exclusionary and privatist character of public space. For this, public and private documents, newspapers, as well as a historiographical balance on the treated subjects are analyzed.
