The fishing cooperatives of the Pacífico Norte region (in the state of Baja California Sur) are one of the pillars of the tradition of cooperatives in Mexico. However, there are only few studies regarding the sector’s origins and consolidation. The paper's analysis starts in the mid 19th century and investigates the evaluation and exploitation of certain marine resources by foreigners. It continues studying the post-revolutionary period when the cooperatives were created as a legal instrument for the utilization of natural resources. The first one in the area was constituted in 1939 and the last in 1974. The territorial analysis focuses on the places where investments and labor take place. Thereby it will be possible to comprehend the territorial processes of one of Mexico’s most peripheral areas.
