Abstract

CABERO-ALMENARA, Julio; PEREZ-DIEZ DE LOS RIOS, José Luis  and  VALENCIA-ORTIZ, Rubicelia. Scale to Measure the Students’ Addiction to Online Social Media. Convergencia [online]. 2020, vol.27, e11834.  Epub May 29, 2020. ISSN 2448-5799.  https://doi.org/10.29101/crcs.v27i83.11834.

The use of online social media has opened a line of inquiry focused on the phenomenon of addiction as a result of the intensive use of technologies and Internet, especially for vulnerable groups of the population such as youth and adolescents. This has led to the search for diagnostic instruments, where self-awareness scales have gained ground. This article sought to validate and adapt the social media addiction scale designed by Sahin to the Mexican context. The resulting instrument is a useful tool given the inexistence of its kind in the Mexican literature to gather information as regards the level of the people’s addiction to online social media.
