Abstract

TAGUENCA-BELMONTE, Juan Antonio. Public opinion of university students in the State of Hidalgo, Mexico: analysis from the field theory. Convergencia [online]. 2012, vol.19, n.60, pp.45-77. ISSN 2448-5799.

In this paper we present the preliminary results of an investigation into the political culture and social capital of youths in the State of Hidalgo, Mexico, which we conducted with resources from the Teaching Improvement Program (Mexico). Specifically, we start from the field theory as a theoretical model and discourse analysis as a qualitative research technique we methodologically framed its work. Both aspects can drill beliefs and attitudes of youths from Hidalgo about politics, and why, apparently, they display disinterest. From the results of said disinterest it is not observed but it is the political field which closes for them, as it is inserted into a social monopoly. The stance of these young people is ethical, but does not vindicate for greater political participation, which leaves for the actors the maintenance of the field or the change in the rules of inclusion.

Keywords : political field; discourse analysis; university students; beliefs; attitudes.
