CORNEJO-PORTUGAL, Inés y FORTUNY-LORET DE MOLA, Patricia. Social liminality and cultural negotiation: Immigrants from Yucatan, Mexico, in San Francisco, California, U.S.. Convergencia [online]. 2012, vol.19, n.58, pp.71-96. ISSN 2448-5799.
Within the theoretical concepts of social liminality and cultural negotiation, we analyze three case-studies of migrants from Yucatan in San Francisco, California. The case studies picture the diverse ways in which immigrants use social resources such as family, religion, friends and neighbor links to enable them to achieve a relative emotional balance while dealing with the cultural tension prevailing in the destination.
