Abstract

ALFARO-PAREJA, Francisco José. From: why don't you shut up? To: why don't we go to the beach? Communication for peace in the light of interactive processes between Juan Carlos I, King of Spain, and President Hugo Chávez and their media coverage. Convergencia [online]. 2011, vol.18, n.55, pp.13-36. ISSN 2448-5799.

This article analyzes some characteristics of Communication for Peace, using the study of two specifics processes of interaction between the Heads of State of Spain and Venezuela, Juan Carlos I de Borbón and Hugo Chávez, for its understanding: their meeting in the Ibero-American Summit of Heads of State and Governments, celebrated in Santiago de Chile, in November 2007 and their meeting in the Miravent Palace of Mallorca, in July 2008. All of this to analyze the elements which helped to increase the political conflict (from the famous phrase Why don't you shut up?) and those that helped to regulate it by pacific means using Communication for Peace. Additionally, I will revise the manner in which the mass media processed this item of news and if they helped to promote violence or peace.

Keywords : performative reason; ethic of discourse; cordial reason; epistemological change; communication for peace.
