Abstract

ALBERT GUARDIOLA, Mª Carmen; ESPINAR RUIZ, Eva  and  HERNANDEZ SANCHEZ, Mª Isabel. Los inmigrantes como amenaza. Procesos migratorios en la televisión española. Convergencia [online]. 2010, vol.17, n.53, pp.49-68. ISSN 2448-5799.

Most of the researches carried out on mass media and processes of migration highlight the tendency of their problematization. Migrant population is associated to social, economic and cultural threats, deviation, crime, illegality, etcetera. Drawing on the case of Spain, this article examines how television news programs display information related to immigrant population. We have collected a total of 145 news items broadcasted in 105 news programs from four television channels (three of them national and one regional). Qualitative techniques have been applied to analyze this information.

Keywords : television; risks; migration; mass media; qualitative analysis.
