This essay sets out to selectively explain the evolution of the public administration's field of study and to describe some research trends. In the development of this essay there is a mix of issues: the public administration as a field of study, as a teaching, as a research and professional practice. The essay is divided in the following parts: 1) The changes and transformations of the Public Administration and their impact on the field; 2) The transformation of the division between the public and the private and their impact on the field; 3) Whereto is the field of study going?; 4) What is the experience of México?; And 5) Conclusions.
