This research project was carried out on the highlands of Zacatecas state during the second semester of 2001 in order to characterize the extension agents that work with dry pepper growers. A 42 questions booklet was designed and applied. The extension agents have a low relationship with the agricultural institutions, their main information needs are related to insect and dis ease control, as well as commercialization, and the main factors limiting their efficiency in the extension service are presented.
