This article presents the findings of a research project whose objective is the study the representations the inhabitants of the city of Saltillo, Coahuila have constructed around environmental problems, and the role the written press has played in this process. The research was based on different methodological techniques. The study concludes that the agenda of the written press is important in the construction of the representations the population has in relation to the natural environment, but also shows that the press does not grant a civil behavior favorable towards the environment.
