Abstract

CASTILLO ALEMAN, Gloria Del  and  FLORES-IVICH, Georgina. Newspaper Coverage of Educational Reform in Mexico: An Issue of Media and Policies. Gest. polít. pública [online]. 2019, vol.28, n.2, pp.501-539.  Epub May 30, 2020. ISSN 1405-1079.  https://doi.org/10.29265/gypp.v28i2.628.

The article aims to systematize the media coverage received by the Mexican educational reform between 2012 and 2015 in four national daily newspapers. The findings contribute to know what media attention the RE received. It is assumed that the written national press privileged in its coverage the decisions that represented drastic changes of policies for the different actors that have carried out the reform, which offers some coordinates to understand what role it played in this policy process. It is concluded that the press favored the coverage of decisions and actions of greater controversy in the trajectory of the educational policies of the last twenty years and left in second plane equally trascendental aspects, which invites to reflect on its role in the processes of policies and the existence of communication strategies that accompany this type of transformation processes

Keywords : media; media attention; agenda setting; policy process; education reform.
