This article analyzes the variables in the situational diagnosis concerning dependency of elderly people in Mexico, regarding aims and emerging lines, defining the term dependency of elderly people and observing the standard of living in the institutional context of an appropriate treatment. Thus the different public policies within the law reforms can be checked, approaching a definition of dependency in the current institutional context, the function of the family caregiver and his methodology in the federal, state and local guidelines. At the end of this article stands an appropriate plan of intervention focused on the detected needs, emphasizing on the decentralization of the law and promoting the autonomy of the elderly person.
