Abstract

BETANCOURT MARTINEZ, Fernando. The Poetics of History as Irony: Constructivism, Observation and Reflexive Value. Hist. graf [online]. 2020, n.55, pp.51-82.  Epub Sep 07, 2020. ISSN 1405-0927.  https://doi.org/10.48102/hyg.vi55.309.

The author of this article seeks to exercise a reading of Hayden White’s work in order to identify, from his tropological and poetic proposals, a series of epistemological implications. This exercise requires suspending the rhetorical condition introduced by White, without prejudice to the value of these cognitive implications. The basic element of this effort is to resume the ironic condition as compensatory to the project of describing history as a producer of objective knowledge. The central thesis affirms that the ironic attitude is a path that allows observing the unobservable of the historiographic operation and providing it with a reflexive value that allows it to reproduce its cognitive structures.

Keywords : Hayden White; Epistemology; Historiography; Constructivism; Observation Theory; Systems Theory; Poetics; Irony.
