Resumen

WILDE, Guillermo. A Jesuitical Praxis Foundation. Missionary Profile, Territorial Disputes and Forms of Self-representation in Times of Claudio Acquaviva. Hist. graf [online]. 2017, n.49, pp.147-175. ISSN 1405-0927.

Claudio Acquaviva’s Generalship (1581-1615) was a founding stage in the South American organization of the Society of Jesus. During this period there was a territorial redistribution of the South American provinces of the order, missionary activity received a strong impulse and it was created a decision-making system providing more autonomy to intermediate authorities in local affairs. Such Jesuitical praxis was founded in the framework of a devotional culture that sought to take root in the American territories through the deployment of public ceremonies that simultaneously exhibited paradigmatic symbols of Ignatian spirituality and incorporated significant elements of local traditions, signaling full insertion of the order in the Iberian domains.
