Abstract

SEGUNDO GUZMAN, Miguel Ángel. The Conqueror's writing: Horizons of chieftains meaning in Hernán Cortés' Cartas de relación. Hist. graf [online]. 2016, n.46, pp.177-209. ISSN 1405-0927.

Hernán Cortés' Letters have been the basis on which knowledge has built on the Conquest of Mexico. But is a transparent account? This article attempts to show horizons of meaning from which you can understand the writings of the conqueror from the war tradition in the Western Culture. The first three letters in which the noble symbolic of Conquest unfolds are analyzed. In that sense, Cortés writing ispresented in its full meaning: they are foundational writings, which are subjected to the New World under the European imaginary.

Keywords : Conquest; Cortés; Moctezuma; Chivalry.
