Abstract
FUSARO, Diego. Reinhart Koselleck And The Monuments As Indicators Of Historical And Political Changes. Hist. graf [online]. 2015, n.45, pp.95-122. Epub Nov 22, 2019. ISSN 1405-0927.
Koselleck argues that monuments, as a way of preserving the memory of the dead, is an ancient practice as humanity itself. According to him, it originates in a pre-historic problem regarding the anthropologic-existencial order, this means, the relationship between life and death. Nevertheless, this characteristic has walked along with the monuments throught history since Antiquity until our days. Modern monuments, however, have certain characteristics that make possible to distinguish traits of Modernity. In fact, these modern monuments not only do remember the dead as they conquer anhiliation and the “no-more”. In certain way they justify death ex post, not only assuring that they are dead, but that they have died for something. Because of that its passing away must be understood as a conjuration between the past and the future from which it has stemmed. The concept of Geschichte has entered in the semantics of the monuments and have redefinied it deeply.
