Abstract

BRINKMAN-CLARK, William. The Crisis of Critique. Contemporary kulturindustrie and the Agony of Critique in Modern Democracies. Hist. graf [online]. 2015, n.44, pp.47-88.  Epub Nov 22, 2019. ISSN 1405-0927.

¿What is the role of critique in contemporary societies living in the context of modern democracies? Through a historical review of the concept of critique, and an analisis -by means of the work of Adorno, Bourdieu, Harvey and Rancière- of what modern democracies entail, this essay posits the question about the place critical operation holds in said democracies. If we use our contemporary kulturindustrie as a paradigm, is it possible to affirm that critical operations threaten that which legitimizes modern democracies? And if this holds true, is there a crisis of critique within them?.

Keywords : Democracy; Criticism; Crisis; Utopia; Critical Theory; Kulturindustrie.
