Abstract

MENDIOLA, Alfonso. To historise theology and the dogmas of Church: Michel de Certeau's commitment. Hist. graf [online]. 2012, n.38, pp.173-207. ISSN 1405-0927.

In this essay, which belongs to an investigation about the life and work of Michel de Certeau, the ecclesiastic context in which the French Jesuit decided to dedicate to History is introduced. During the 1950's Certeau understands the importance History has in the assumption of his commitment to priesthood. Differing from the Church's position - the rejection of History - he commits to the thinking of the history of dogmas and of biblical interpretation from a temporal perspective. This would eventually lead him to the construction of a critical epistemology of History.

Keywords : Michel de Certeau; Pio XII; History; archive; Human Sciences; Theology.
