At least in civil law systems, when expert evidence is on issue the expert’s impartiality (or partiality) is a recurrent topic, mainly as a criterion used for the assessment of this kind of evidence. For this reason, is worthwhile pay attention to this topic, primarily distinguishing different senses of im/partiality (and their relationship with other relevant concepts); and then take into account the judicial mechanisms whose functioning could contribute to identify a partial expert, from her appointment through her assessment.
