Cholelithiasis is a very frequent pathology and implies high costs in health systems; it is also one of the main gastroenterology diagnosis made in hospitalized patients. Worldwide, and specifically in Mexico, gallstones are one of the main health problems and higher incidence disease in adults. Among the risk factors for biliary disease are female sex, age, overweight and obesity, as well as rapid weight loss. Many of these factors are present in patients undergoing bariatric surgery. Some studies report up to 20% of cholelithiasis or a history of cholecystectomy in their patients who will undergo bariatric surgery. Patients submitted to bariatric surgery have low incidence rate of biliary complications, and concomitant cholecystectomy increases the risk for postoperative complications and operative time. If cholecystectomy is not indicated, patients should be carefully followed with attention for biliary complications, once cholecystectomy performed post bariatric surgery is at higher risk for complications and reoperations. In this review, we carry out a search in the different times in which laparoscopic cholecystectomy can be performed in the bariatric patient.
