Humans produce drops and aerosols in various situations, the transmission of the new virus SARS-COV-2 is given by inhalation and contact with mucosa. A proper understanding of the personal protective equipment (PPE) is essential. Understanding the way in which the devices that make up the PPE prevent the entry of the virus into our body is essential to provide adequate care to our patients. Protection of the airway seems to be much better with either filtering or elastomeric respirators with a minimum of 95% filtration, than with surgical masks, although the evidence is still insufficient, but with studies underway to demonstrate or refute it. The care of the ocular mucosa plays an apparently very important role in the transmission of the virus, so the use of preferably hermetic lenses or masks is recommended in case of being exposed to high aerosolization. Training in donning and doffing gloves and gowns is essential to avoid contagion. It is concluded that the availability of adequate personal protective equipment is essential in the quality of care of patients with COVID.
