Abstract

CAMPOS, Alberto. The end of medicine. The problems of social construction. Cir. gen [online]. 2019, vol.41, n.2, pp.127-131.  Epub Oct 09, 2020. ISSN 1405-0099.

This article addresses the differences between social context and social construction and the influence of each on what is considered knowledge, the purposes and the practice of medicine. It describes the validation processes by which medical knowledge is considered accepted, how anomalous combinations between context and social construction produce justifications that influence what doctors and patients expect and how, by changing the foundations, ends and practices change. Finally, the consequences of a lax moral pluralism are discussed, in which the doctor relegates his functions to the patient, who is then left unattended and at the mercy of her beliefs.

Keywords : Social construction; social context; social medicine; medical knowledge; physician-patient relations; epistemic contaminants.
