ENRIQUEZ-SANCHEZ, Luis Bernardo; GARCIA-SALAS, José Daniel  e  CARRILLO-GORENA, Javier. Chronic and acute cholecystitis, review and current status in our environment. Cir. gen [online]. 2018, vol.40, n.3, pp.175-178. ISSN 1405-0099.

Objective:

To analyze the prevalence of cholecystectomy, the different preoperative diagnoses for surgical excision and the surgical management-depending on the severity and characteristics of the population suffering from cholecystitis-in the Central Hospital of the City of Chihuahua.

Material and methods:

We transversely and retrospectively studied 355 patients who were hospitalized and operated on for either elective or emergency cholecystectomy in the Surgery Service of the Central Hospital of the City of Chihuahua from July 2016 to July 2017 .

Results:

During the period of this study, 355 patients underwent a cholecystectomy; 305 (87.64%) were laparoscopic or minimally invasive cholecystectomies-of these, 11 (3.1%) were converted to open surgery-; 43 (12.36%) patients underwent first-intention open cholecystectomy with a traditional open technique; seven patients were excluded due to incomplete information in more than 20% of the variables. The average age of presentation of the disease was 41; the majority of the patients were female, 280 (80.45%), with a minority of male patients, only 68 (19.55%).

Conclusions:

In most of the cases, the selection of the surgical approach lies in the technology of the surgical material available, the experience and skill of the surgeons, the degree of complication of the cholecystitis, and the possible benefits of either technique, effectively individualizing each patient.
