Abstract

SOTO GRANADOS, Mauro  and  MALDONADO PALACIOS, Blanca Esther. Idiopathic granulomatous mastitis. Case report and review of literature. Cir. gen [online]. 2016, vol.38, n.4, pp.199-202.  Epub Apr 16, 2020. ISSN 1405-0099.

Idiopathic granulomatous mastitis is a rare but benign condition that has a high morbidity. Its genesis is probably autoimmune and/or infectious. Clinically it may be mistaken for a malignancy of the breast. The imaging studies are of limited usefulness for precise diagnosis. The definitive diagnosis is histopathological and by exclusion of other granulomatous diseases. By virtue of their rarity still no consensus as to their treatment, it seems that the best results are obtained from surgical excision supplemented with medical treatment with antibiotics, steroids and immunosuppressants. We present a case report and review the most important aspects of this rare disease.

Keywords : Granulomatous mastitis; breast cancer; prednisone; methotrexate.
