ROJAS DIAZ, Rodrigo Octavio; PEREZ SOSA, Julio Alberto y CONTRERAS RUIZ VELASCO, Rafael. Duodenogastric reflux. Definition and diagnosis. Cir. gen [online]. 2015, vol.37, n.3-4, pp.91-98. Epub 26-Mar-2020. ISSN 1405-0099.
In recent years, there has been a growing interest in duodenogastric or non-acid reflux in patients with GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease). This is due to the association of this disease with alkaline gastritis, severe esophagitis, Barrett’s esophagus and high risk of cancer. However, the role of this disease as an independent entity from GERD is not clear. Most studies focus on symptoms and problems caused by this kind of reflux in the esophagus, ignoring the impact on the gastric level. We present a guide for the proper use of the definitions related to non-acid and duodenogastric reflux and a cause-based classification.
