ALBARRAN CAZARES, Jessica; MENDOZA MARQUEZ, José  e  NEVAREZ BORUNDA, Hugo Alejandro. Risk factors for cholecystolithiasis in Young patients with a body mass index below 30. Cir. gen [online]. 2012, vol.34, n.2, pp.121-124. ISSN 1405-0099.

Objective: To determine the risk factors for cholecystolithiasis in young female patients with a body mass index (BMI) < 30. Setting: Specialty Medical Center of Cd. Juárez, Chihuahua. Design: Cases and controls study. Statistical analysis: Percentages as summary measure for qualitative variables and odds ratio (OR). Patients and methods: We collected data from the clinical records of 20 patients subjected to laparoscopic cholecystectomy from January 2006 to April 2011. Nutritional status was estimated from an interview performed via telephone. The assessed variables were: specialized weight loosing diets, daily fiber consumption, nocturnal fasting period longer than 10 hours, and alcohol consumption. Results: A positive association was found between the specialized weight losing diets and cholecystolithiasis (OR 2.33; IC 95%, 0.63-5.28, p < 0.05); daily consumption of fiber had a protective action (OR 0.333; IC 95%, 0.27-1.96, p < 0.05); a nocturnal fasting period longer than 10 hours was positively associated with cholecystolithiasis (OR 1.33; IC 95%, 0.29-5.91, p < 0.05). Alcohol consumption had a protective effect (OR 0.42; IC del 95%, 0.11-1.56, p < 0.05). Conclusions: We found that specialized diets to lose weight and a long nocturnal fasting period are important risk factors for cholecystolithiasis in young women. We also found that the daily consumption of fiber and moderate alcohol consumption diminish the risk for this disease.
