Abstract

SOUR-TOVAR, Francisco; PEREZ-HUERTA, Alberto; QUIROZ-BARROSO, Sara A.  and  CENTENO-GARCIA, Elena. Lower Permian brachiopods and trilobite from northwerstern Hidalgo State, Mexico. Rev. mex. cienc. geol [online]. 2005, vol.22, n.1, pp.24-35. ISSN 2007-2902.

The brachiopods Krotovia sp., Dasysaria sp., Derbyoides cf. D. dunbari, Neospirifer cf. N. amphigyus, Neospirifer sp., Spiriferellina tricosa and ?Holosia sp., and the trilobite Anisopyge whitei are described from Lower Permian (Wolfcampian-Leonardian) rocks from Otlamalacatla region, northwest of Hidalgo State. The association is similar to Permian faunas from west Texas and almost all these taxa are recorded for the first time in Mexico. These faunas were reworked and deposited by turbiditic flows that remobilized shallow marine deposits in the context of a submarine volcanic arc, which developed on continental crust of eastern Mexico during early Permian times.

Keywords : brachiopods; trilobites; Lower Permian; Hidalgo; Mexico.
