An Ullmann type diaryl ether synthesis using thallium derivatives as both aryl components (Thallous phenolate and aryl bis trifluoroacetyl Thallium (III) derivatives) is described. A salient feature of this procedure is that it allows 4-nitrophenolate to participate as the nucleophilic reagent in the Ullmann ether synthesis.
