RODRIGUEZ, Jesús; SOSA, Gerardo J. y GARZA, Yolanda. Bioconversión anaerobia como una alternativa para la remoción de DQO contenido en aguas residuales del rastro municipal de la Ciudad de Saltillo, Coahuila, México. Rev. Soc. Quím. Méx [online]. 2002, vol.46, n.2, pp.185-188. ISSN 0583-7693.
Start-up of an UASB-hybrid reactor, packed with bauxite at the top, was made for treatment of slaugterhouse wastewater of Saltillo, México. The reactor temperature was controlled at 38 °C. Sludge adaptation was made for 10 days; continuous feeding was then began at organic load rates of 0.9 g COD / L / day. The pH values fluctuated in the range of 7.1-8.2. Production of volatile fatty acids and the biogas flow were measured. The removal efficiency was achieved graduating the velocity of feeding and the hydraulic retention times. For the start-up stage a period of 30 days was needed and the wastewater treatment efficiency was above 85 %.
