GONZALEZ-CHI, P.I. y YOUNG, R. J.. Micromecánica de deformación de fibras de polietileno usando espectroscopía Raman. Rev. Soc. Quím. Méx [online]. 2002, vol.46, n.2, pp.83-92. ISSN 0583-7693.
Raman spectroscopy was used to follow the micromechanics of deformation for single filaments of High Performance Gel-spun Polyethylene Fibres. The shift of the 1129 cm-1 Raman band corresponding to the symmetric C-C stretching mode of polyethylene was followed in tension as a function of the applied stress or strain. The compressive behaviour of the fibre was also studied using Four-point Bend geometry. The 1129 cm-1 Raman band shifted in a linear fashion, both in tension and in compression until failure. The accuracy of the results was assessed by studying the effect of fibre relaxation on the Raman band shifting and also by measuring the variability of Raman signal along the fibre.
