Abstract

SANDOVAL, Julio et al. Comparación de resultados de experimentos exteriores en cámaras de esmog realizados en las ciudades de Los Ángeles, Cal. y México, D.F.. Rev. Soc. Quím. Méx [online]. 2000, vol.44, n.4, pp.299-304. ISSN 0583-7693.

Results achieved on air quality studies in outdoor smog chamber experiments performed using captive air irradiation methodology (CAI) carried out on Los Angeles, Cal. and Mexico City are compared. On both cities, experiments involved in measurements of maximum ozone levels (O3 máx) reached as a consequence of changes in non-methane hydrocarbon (NMHC) and nitrogen oxide (NOx) initial concentrations. During the experiments NO, NO2, NOx, CO, NMHC, temperature and UV radiation were measured. Ozone precursor initial concentrations were so different between both cities, also geographic conditions presented differences. Strategies for reducing O3 máx by 50 % in both cities are a so different. In fact, reducing 60 % in NMHC in Los Angeles will reduce 50 % O3 máx but in Mexico City we must reduce 66 % in NOx. In order to obtain the same affect on the ozone reduction.
