Abstract

SANDOVAL, Julio et al. Estudio de la influencia del gas LP sobre la formación de ozono en una zona de la Ciudad de México. Rev. Soc. Quím. Méx [online]. 2000, vol.44, n.4, pp.294-298. ISSN 0583-7693.

Studies were carried out in smog chambers, to determine LP Gas influence on ozone formation to different non-methane hydrocarbon (NMHC) and nitrogen oxide (NOx) initial condition. Experiments were performed employing Captive-Air Irradiation methodology (CAI). The results obtained with formulations without olefins show that does not exist influence on ozone formation in ambient air, however the commercial formulation with olefins presented a little influence on ozone formation. By the way, the experiments in clean air showed an increase on ozone formation for three formulations between the 2000 ppb C to 4000 ppb C concentration. Nevertheless, from 4000 ppb C to 6000 ppb C an inhibition effect occurs, since the maximum ozone decreased. The formulation that presented a major effect was the commercial, which contains olefins; and for formulation without olefins, the ozone formation decreased for decreasing butane concentration in the formulation.

Keywords : LP Gas; ozone; smog chamber; photochemical reaction.
