Resumen

VAILLANT FLORES, Daymara I  y  GOMEZ IZAQUIRRE, Guadalupe. Incidence of Phytophthora nicotianae and Phytophthora infestans in Cuba. Agric. Téc. Méx [online]. 2009, vol.35, n.2, pp.219-223. ISSN 0568-2517.

The genus Phytophthora, for many years was classified among the Phycomycetes in the class Oomycetes; recently, it was included in the kingdom Chromista. Most of the species are soilborne pathogens that damage crops of economic importance in different regions around the world. The objective of this research was to determine the incidence and geographical distribution of Phytophthora nicotianae and Phytophthora infestans in Cuba since they were first reported in 1905 until 2007. The information available related to the biology and epidemiology of the pathogen, the campaigns or years that they impacted and the damaged crops, was collected. The data collected on P. infestans were tabulated and with the data on P. nicotianae a graph was made. The interaction between late blight and the potato crop (Solanum tuberosum) in Cuba is presented, as well as the increase in the number of host species of P. nicotianae in time and its relationship with the climatic conditions are discussed.

Palabras llave : economic losses; host; tobacco black foot; late blight.
