ROSERO, Sebastián  e  MIDEROS, Andrés. Effects of the Covid-19 pandemic on income impoverishment in Ecuador. Prob. Des [online]. 2023, vol.54, n.213, pp.161-189.  Epub 07-Nov-2023. ISSN 0301-7036.  https://doi.org/10.22201/iiec.20078951e.2023.213.69908.

The pandemic increased poverty worldwide. However, the mechanisms affecting its determinants still need to be clarified. This paper studies thisproblem using a probabilistic model of poverty extended with pandemic incidence variables and applying logistic regression on a household level. Forthe case of Ecuador, we use the December rounds of the 2019 and 2020 National Survey for Employment, Underemployment and Unemployment(ENEMDU), the administrative record of the Covid-19 epidemiological report, and the administrative record of deaths. The results show that thepandemic’s impact on poverty was through the gender gap and labor market structure.
