LOPEZ-DEL AGUILA, Valentín Héctor; SANCHA-MIRELES, Javier David De la  e  BAEZ-GUTIERREZ, José Guadalupe. Product retention in birth canal secondary to sacrococcygeal teratoma and cesarean delivery: A case report. Ginecol. obstet. Méx. [online]. 2021, vol.89, n.6, pp.488-496.  Epub 28-Fev-2022. ISSN 0300-9041.  https://doi.org/10.24245/gom.v89i6.4578..

BACKGROUND:

Sacrococcygeal teratoma is a fetal malformation with repercussions on the route of termination of pregnancy.

OBJECTIVE:

To document the case and describe the maneuvers performed for the abdominal extraction of a fetus retained in the birth canal due to a giant sacrococcygeal teratoma.

CLINICAL CASE:

23-year-old patient, with a history of 2 previous deliveries who came to the hospital with a clinically full-term pregnancy and labor in the second stage of labor. During delivery care there is usually retention of the fetus under the umbilical scar. The ultrasound scan showed an image compatible with giant sacrococcygeal teratoma; therefore it was decided that the birth should be by cesarean section; reintroduction of the limbs and head was difficult. The evolution of the mother during the postoperative period was satisfactory and she was discharged from the hospital after 48 hours, without complications during the puerperium. The newborn was sent to a tertiary hospital for specialized care, without obstetric trauma.

CONCLUSION:

Sacrococcygeal teratoma has a radical impact on the route of termination of pregnancy due to the important relationship with dystocia. The knowledge of specialized maneuvers for the care of dystocic deliveries is decisive in the training process of the obstetrician-gynecologist because they can be applied and adapted in the care of complex cases that so require it.
